The lead agency on this trial was the national agricultural research institute; IIAM.
A 0.6 ha trial plot was prepared inside Mandonge Research Forest and provenances provided by the project were planted.
The trial was well managed apart from weeding in the second half of the rainy season. In two successive seasons no weeding was undertaken with the result that the growth was severely hampered. As a result FACT decided to discontinue its support and soon after IIAM abandoned the trial too.
Jatropha in this area experience a high pest pressure and it was hoped that the trial would reveal if any of the provenances was more resistant than others.
